    • When things don't sit well

      How often have you heard or watched the news report on something that is pretty much the opposite of what you experienced? What gives?

      Spending time in Brooklyn is a pretty good education.... if you stick around long enough to connect some of the dots.

      You can see the slant of the local papers/politicians/deve;opers/residents/leaders evolve, or is that expose themselves in an interesting dance of seek the money/ support the source of the money/ obfuscate the connection/ avoid the consequences of being bought.

       

      The naive become less so, but usually, before the anger can reach a boil, either become part of the problem, spawn or become affluent enough that a little malfeasance doesn't bother them that much anymore.

       

      And so it goes.  Fresh people in.  People consumed by the process out.  No real progress.  Actually, often a regression. And no real accountability.  Some blame the courts, but  as SOPA has shown us, we are as guilty by pretending that the electorate, with a staggered effect, can keep the powers that be on their toes and on the better side of either a legal, moral or ethical right.

      What gives is a a little bit of the collective soul every time we don't pay attention for whatever reason.

      Every day the internet is chock full of information. Often too much information.

      We, at the start, will endeavor to let you know when we have found a really well done story or article or cartoon and pass you the link with a paragraph or two of our thoughts.  Eventually we will have our own sources also, but good news is good news wherever you may find it.  For now, we hope you will read one of the articles now and then and comment on the article to start this ball rolling.  Participation is key.

Welcome to The Growler.....

yet another web-based (sort of) journalism project.

Nothing to see yet... But soon enough...

It has been a few years now since the earthquake of the internet took down the economic heart of the newspaper industry.  An entire lifetime (in internet time frames) has passed and the first new growth has come and gone.  Maybe its time for some long term vision.  Forest for the trees and all that...

 

THE essential component of  this project is that journalism is not a sterile science.  It is a living organism that survives only with great care and effort and attention to detail and historical perspective and ... with community.  Not "A SENSE OF COMMUNITY", but actual interacting people from diverse backgrounds who converge on something that will effect change, or, at least, inform those who seek a wider awareness.

 

Something is necessary that  is deeper than the massaging of bits in order to do less work, commit less energy and spend less time while still making the same dollars that an over-hyped/over-subsidized/artificially elevated system provided?

The internet is a good thing.   It is, first and foremost, and equalizer on barriers to entry.  Anyone with a good idea has a fighting chance heretofore not possible.  It is also the long envisioned catalyst that will form the basis of a new social interaction of complete openness of process and a more direct connection between the government and those governed (can you say SOPA?).  More information to more people  and more participation by more people.

 

Here we will slowly craft and tune something worthy of .... our time.
